Jennie Kim (Hangul: 김제니; born January 16, 1996), also known by the mononym Jennie, is a South Korean rapper and singer. She debuted as the main rapper and vocalist of girl group Blackpink in August 2016, under YG Entertainment. In August 2016, she debuted as a member of the girl group Blackpink. The group has released two digital single albums, Square One and Square Two, as well as two EPs, Blackpink and Square Up. In mid-October 2018, an announcement of Kim's official solo debut was made. In the midst of preparation for her debut, it was decided that her single "Solo" would first be revealed at Blackpink's In Your Area tour in Seoul ahead of release on November 12. "Solo" became the most viewed music video by a female K-pop solo artist in the first 24 hours of release, surpassing IU's "Palette".In South Korea, "Solo" claimed the number one spot on the Digital and Streaming charts on Gaon Chart for two consecutive weeks.Kim received her first-ever music show win on SBS' Inkigayo on November 25.
